Short Game
June 18th, 2009 | By Jay McGrathThe short game is something that can really make or break a golfer. While it is important to be able to drive the ball successfully, having a good iron game and being a good putter will significantly help lower your score. Of course, the most stressful aspect of golf is putting. Not only does the pressure of it being your last shot come into play, but difficult reads on greens also provide for additional stresses that can damage a pysche.
Jack Nicklaus, one of the most famous golfers of all time, said that, “if I could just putt. I might just scare somebody, maybe me.”
Nicklaus’s quote truly sums up the views of many golfers. Most players utilize golf driving range mats and golf hitting mats with their drivers and woods to perfect their driving, but fail to spend the time necessary to excel in their short game on the putting green. Not only must time be spent on putting greens, but it also needs to be spent on a golf chipping mat and golf pitching mat in order to work on approach shots. Improving on the short game will certainly bring your game to a new level.
